4/5/22 - VO Atlanta was this past weekend. Attending was the correct decision.
I'm glad I was duped into thinking it would be the final installment of the legendary conference, or else I might not have gone and met the fantastic folks I had the good fortune of being introduced to.
It never ceases to amaze me how kind and generous people are in this industry. And also, what a difference there is when you stop asking questions about business and just focus on human beings.
I met huge names in the business, and then I got to know them. Who has kids? What are those kids up to? What brought these people here? Where do they drink at VO Atlanta? What do they drink? How do these people react to abysmal hotel restaurant service (on account of under-staffing)? I learned the answer to these questions and many more throughout this weekend. And, no, I won't be sharing my findings here. But I will say that I left Atlanta with several more friends than I had when I arrived and an inspiring amount of confidence that I am on the right path. Oh, and it's worth noting that everybody was super nice to their servers. Which, coming from a lifetime in the service industry, was really nice to see. Further cementing my belief that VO people are the best people.
I met people I want to coach with. I met people I want to spend time with as friends. I danced. I laughed. I minimized doubt in my ability to converse with new people when I'm not safe behind the bar (my comfort zone). It was a productive weekend.
Next month, I'm off to One Voice UK to check out London and make even more friends. Stay tuned.
